Being A Women In Today's Society

A recent Tik Tok trench that recently appeared on my timeline that I felt the need to talk about is the "

put a finger down challenge", similar to "never have I ever", but with a dark twist. The voice that started the trend asks people to "put a finger down" if:

  • You have been drugged

  • Touched inappropriately

  • If something bad happened to you when you were around people who should have protected you

These are just a few traumatic experiences women commonly face. The following are the biggest problems women face in today's society:

  • Trauma Centered Feminism: The definition of trauma centered feminism is the idea that women need protection from men. Today, women are being taught they are vulnerable, fragile, and in danger, especially on college campuses. It's sad, really. The United States is considered one of the top 10 most dangerous countries in the world for women.

  • Access to Equal Opportunity: In too many places women who are seeking their basic rights, such as education, is seen as challenging the existing power structures.

  • The Lack of Respect for Caregiving: It is during this global pandemic it has come into light that women are the main caregivers of the family, while also maintaining a job. Yet, in some places, when a girl is born there is disappointment in the air. There is also the tough balance of career and motherhood. Today it's common for a female to come back from maternity leave only to find she's been replaces and out of a job, or a women needing to leave her job in order to take care of her family. But what about the men? Why are they the ones who get to keep working? Answer me that.

  • The Economy is Against Women: Today, a women earns 80 cents for every dollar a man earns.

This is an unfortunate reality many women face today. I believe, that it's time for a change.
