How To Differentiate Your Breakouts

Breakouts come in all shapes and sizes, and they appear for a number of different reasons.

Different types of breakouts:

Rosacea Acne

Typically looks pink to red and slightly inflamed in areas like the cheek and nose. The best products to use on this type of skin are calming, inflammation reducing products. Aim for ingredients such as colloidal oats, niacinamide, and zinc oxide.

Perioral Dermatitis

Shows up as tiny, pinpoint, raised bumps on the skin, infected hair follicles, or constant lip licking.

Cystic Acne

This type of breakout presents as deep, achey pustules that are large and red in surrounding tissue with a yellow "belly" in the center. This acne has been linked to stress, hormonal imbalances, different medications, smoking, and overproduction of oil in the skin.

Milia

These breakouts manifest as small, hardened white bumps under the skin that are sometimes singular. Milia is caused by trapped oil in a hair follicle and the oil hardens.

Blackheads

Blackheads are made of thickened oil trapped in a hair follicle that has oxidized, creating the dark appearance.
