My Trip To St. Kitts

Updated: May 5, 2022

I was recently lucky enough to go to the island of St. Kitts with my family. The trip was originally scheduled for a different time, but due to Covid and other factors, the trip was rescheduled to the last week of July.

When it came to getting there, the process was similar to when I visited Aruba. We had to get a Covid-19 test and submit the negative results in order to fly and enter the country.

When we landed though, things got slightly frustrating. We landed, and had to walk outside in order to enter the airport. Before we could even step a foot in the door, we had to sanitize our hands and have our temperature taken. Because it was only one person taking temperatures, the line to get into the airport was long.

The ride from the airport to the hotel was short, and when we got there we once again had to sanitize and get our temperature taken. It was when we were checking in that we were told we had to quarantine for three days within the resort.

At first, I was very annoyed. I couldn’t complain though, because the quarantine allowed us to walk around the resort freely, we just couldn’t leave the grounds.

So, the first three days were spent quietly and blissfully by the pool. My family and I laid out in the sun, swam in the pool, and even won a couple rounds of Bingo!

When it came time for us to get tested, the whole process was as previously mentioned, frustrating. We were told that security would come to our room and escort us to the testing van at 5:30 in the morning, and we would receive a call beforehand reminding us.

This did not happen. We did not receive the phone call, and security did not come to our room until 5:50. We were asked to walk in a single file line and socially distanced.

When we arrived to the area where we would be tested, the testing van was not there. We waited outside in the hot and humid Caribbean are until 6:30 in the morning. It was then that the van arrived, and one by one we entered and got tested. Now it was a waiting game.

After 24 hours we finally received our results. And just in time too. That day my mother had reserved a shuttle ride from the hotel to a black sand beach called “Shipwreck”.

When we arrived, I was underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, the beach and water were beautiful, but the beach itself was very small. There was one bar/restaurant that was a little bit on the rundown side.

However, the food and drinks were amazing, and I did enjoy laying out by the waves after being stuck by a pool for three days straight. The black sand was also a plus. It was my first time seeing black sand, and it was shockingly soft!

Our second day of freedom, my family and I ventured to another beach. This one was significantly larger, the water bluer, and in a way, more fun. When we arrived, the establishment gave us one round of free drinks, chairs to lounge on, and an umbrella to escape the harsh sun.

It was when I was laying out in the sun, did my brother approach me about jet skiing. My father said if we wanted to go he would treat us, and although I was terrified about falling in the water (with my fear and all), I forced myself to go and have a good time.

I didn’t drive one myself, I simply sat behind my brother and prayed he wouldn’t flip us over. I admit, I had a blast. It felt like I was flying and I found myself closing my eyes and letting out a loud but happy scream.

Unfortunately, that was our last full day in St. Kitts. The next day we flew back home (and the airport was a nightmare) and I was beyond excited to collapse into my bed.

Overall, the trip was frustrating, but fun. The weather, although rainy at some points throughout the day, was nice. Laying out by the ocean and the pool was relaxing, and was just what I needed.

So, where to next?
