Quarantine Crazies

As many of you are WELL aware, the majority of the United States is under order to shelter in place. That means no leaving your house unless its for necessities (groceries). No one is allowed to congregate in large groups, and the whole world has come to almost a complete stop.

With that being said, my junior year in college was cut short. I was forced to move back home and finish the rest of the semester virtually. Don’t get me wrong, I love being home, but this was not the semester I signed up for. I was looking to all the events my sorority had planned, all the nights spent with my roommates, and the early mornings driving down from the mountain to main class.

Being at home and still taking my college classes I have had to change up my schedule quite a bit. On Monday and Wednesday mornings I am usually productive. I have an online class that meets via zoom, and afterwards I do any necessary work, and end the day with another class via Zoom.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, on the other hand, are totally different. I only have one class that still meets virtually, and it isn’t until five in the evening. With that said, I find myself sleeping in on these days. When I do wake up I'm lounging around, and even after class, I'm bored and tired of doing homework.

So what are some other ways I have been keeping myself entertained? I also asked some friends what they have been up to, and these are the responses

Television: When it comes to watching shows, i usually watch all of them through Netflix or Hulu. With that being said, I also don’t just watch one show at a time, instead you can find me equally invested at multiple shows at a time. Some shows that I am currently shuffling through are:

  • Grey’s Anatomy (Hulu)

    • Bones (Hulu)

    • Tiger King (Netflix)

    • All American (Netflix)

    • Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu)

    • Love is Blind (Netflix)

    • Supernatural (Netflix)

I’ve been listening to a lot of music to fill the silence. Check out my last Music Monday to see what I’ve been listening to!

Being home and not being able to see my friends is not literally killing me, but it does feel like torture. In order to keep ourselves sane, we have turned to individual FaceTime and group FaceTime, and sometimes even Zoom. Throughout the day, one of my close friends and I will FaceTime each other and motivate ourselves to get work. Most of the time, we sit in complete silence or with music softly playing in the background, and we just get our work done! Netflix party has been a close friend, and we have been watching movies at least once a week every night! I have even had to celebrate a friend’s birthday via Zoom, and although I felt bad we couldn’t celebrate in person, it was still fun, and it was nice seeing everyone’s faces! I strongly recommend reaching out to friends and family. It’s a great way to pass time, and it could bring a smile to someone’s face during these scary times!

Because I get most of my school work done over the weekend (or at least, it’s a goal of mine) I find myself spending my Saturday’s and Sunday’s staring at the walls in my room. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that I could possibly be a hoarder. Not ACTUALLY, but I do have a problem getting rid of unnecessary things because i believe they have “sentimental value”. I know, I’m a little crazy. BUT!! Because I don’t have anything better to do during this quarantine, I have slowly but surely been throwing things out. That’s right!! I have been going through my drawers one day at a time and separating items into “throw out”, “donate”, and “keep”. I admit, it’s been hard throwing out some of my things, but my room is feeling spacier and I feel less stressed as a result! If you have time to spare, and feel like things are starting to clutter, try cleaning and even throwing/donating things!

I know right now times are a little rough. The news right now is scary, and we don’t know when things will clear up. With that in mind, it's important to keep ourselves healthy not only physically, but mentally. So take the time to clean out your room/house. Binge watch that tv show you were always too busy to watch. Listen to music and dance around in your room like no one is watching, because NO ONE IS! Take the time to relax, but stimulate the brain as well! Get creative, and if you have any fun ideas, send them my way!
