It has been scientifically proven that getting adequate sleep can improve almost every area of our lives. Not only can it increase productivity and cognitive function, but it can give you more energy and an overall calmer and happier mood.
So how long should you be sleeping for? The National Sleep Foundation recommends seven to nine hours a night for young adults and adults, and seven to eight hours a night for seniors.
How can you ensure you are getting a goods night sleep? Turn off your screens. You need to minimize your screen time in order to get a better rest. To help in doing this, set an nightly alarm that goes off telling you it’s time to put your phone away. Consider putting it in another room or on airplane mode to avoid alerts and any temptations.
I personally struggle with sleeping. It takes me longer than normal to fall asleep, and once I am asleep, I don’t stay asleep. I am up usually every two to three hours and the majority of my night is spent trying to fall back asleep.
It is my mission to try and better my sleeping habits, since lack of sleep can effect mental health. I will be trying out different methods in order to do so, so I will update you on this journey!
