Social media is a great way for people to stay connected, however there are negative aspects of social media such as publicity stunts, negative comments, etc. That's why sometimes, it's good to take a break.
First, you need to come to the realization that you need a break. If you cant fully accept it, then you can't fully commit to staying off social media.
Signs that you need a break:
Can't stop comparing.
You spend a lot of time scrolling through social media.
Can't enjoy what you are doing without posting first.
Social media is the first thing checked in the morning, and the last thing checked at night.
You get annoyed at everything you see.
Social media just isn't fun anymore.
So what are the benefits to staying off social media? There are many!
Allows you to be present and in the moment.
More time to self reflect and learn about yourself.
More time to sleep.
Gives you the chance to get up and move, go outside!
Break the habit of comparing your life to others and reconnect with all the great things in your life.
Allows you to conquer the fear of FOMO (fear of missing out).
Gives you a break from of obsessing over negative comments, likes, etc.
Personally, I take a major break from social media on the weekends. Of course if I am doing something fun or exciting I do like to share, but it isn't my priority and I don't get upset if I don't post or check and see what other people are doing. For me, it's freeing and helps me relax and focus on the present.
Some people will take breaks from social media for weeks or months at a time. If that's something you think you need to do, I think it's a great idea! Taking time off of social media is a great way to take time for yourself, and there is nothing wrong with that!
