Career Plans: Childhood Edition

When a child is growing up, they usually go through multiple and different phases of "I want to be _____ when I grow up". Popular ones tend to be princesses, cowboys, astronauts, and many more.
But then the child reaches a certain age where they realize that they ACTUALLY have to choose what they want to be. This is when the exploration of different interests come in. For me, I explored four different careers in my life before I finally landed on the one I chose for college (and I did not come to that decision until college).
The first profession I "wanted to be when I grew up" was a journalist. More specifically, I wanted to work for a newspaper or magazine. I wanted to have my own advice column, or simply report on the news. When I was little, I was so passionate about this idea, that I would write weekly "newspapers" for my family.
The second profession was teaching. I was so in love with this job, mainly because my parents were teachers, that I had my own whiteboard and chalkboard. My mother would bring home lesson books and plan books so I could "be a teacher" and "teach" my homework to a room "full" of "students".
After a while, my interests in being a teacher flipped to being a lawyer. I believed I was good at arguing and people told me I could be pretty persuasive with my words, but then I realized how many years of schooling it would take to become a lawyer and my interest was no longer there.
From being a lawyer I dreamed of being a nurse, more specifically in pediatrics. I wanted to help children, and be the friendly nurse who could not only physically help them, but mentally make them feel good too. Then, unfortunately, I realized I was incapable of memorizing all the information (this was after one anatomy class in high school).
Finally, I landed on business marketing, because of my love for creation and the industry as a whole. That is currently what I am studying at my University, and I could not be happier with the decision I made. Every single class I find interesting, and I get excited each time I apply something I learned in the classroom outside of the classroom.

Nice to finally find direction. This is a huge accomplishment. I wish you happiness on your journey . You deserve it!
