I Quit My Job: Why And How

As you know, I got a job offer right after graduation working at a digital marketing agency in Ct.
Unfortunately, it was made blatantly obvious to me that I was being undervalued, and underpaid. The amount of work, and the value of my work, was not matching the amount I was being paid.
For the longest time, I was in denial about this piece of information that everyone and their mother was also reminding me. I liked the work I was doing, I enjoyed working with my boss and coworkers, and more importantly (at least in my mind) I was working in the industry I got my degree in, and right out of college no less.
But the more I worked, and the more people pointed out to me that I was being undervalued, the more frustrated I became with the entire situation.
I explained to my boss how I felt, and after attempting to negotiate, it was determined that I would no longer work there. I was not happy to leave, but at the end of the day I had to recognize my worth.
I will admit, when it came to handing in my resignation and standing up for myself, I was terrified. No one taught me how to negotiate in a professional setting, no one taught me how to stand up to a superior, but I did it (and I couldn’t be prouder of myself).
What’s next? Working part time as bartender while I actively apply to jobs closer to home.
I will admit, I am not happy about the situation I am currently in, but I am torn. I absolutely hated sitting around at home all day not really doing anything productive. So having a job that allows me to be active and get out of the house is great.
However, I am not happy with the fact that I am not utilizing the degree I worked so hard to receive. I use these feelings as encouragement, and it forces me to work harder and apply to jobs that are in my field.
Who knows where I will end up, but I am ready!
