Introducing Marley

Updated: May 5, 2022

If you follow my on social media then you've probably seen Marley show up on my stories. For those o you who do not know, Marley is my family dog, but she's really my best friend.

I'll never forget the day we got Marley. My brother and I had been asking for a dog for some time, but my parents (aka my dad) kept saying no. It got to the point that when my brother's birthday was approaching and my parents asked him what he wanted, his only answer was a dog. My mother gave in and decided that it was time to get a dog, so one morning she woke my brother and I up before my dad and we set out to find one. We went from place to place to place meeting different kinds of dogs and trying to decide which would be the perfect dog to bring home.

Somehow we ended up in Manhattan, New York at seven at night. We walked into a random pet store and we asked to see some of their dogs. Immediately the puppies were all over my mother brother and I, but there was one who gently approached my brother and stood at his feet looking up at him. Instantly my brother fell in love and told my mom that he wanted that puppy, and that puppy was Marley. The entire way home she sat in between my brother and I and we instantly gave her so much love. When we got home she was nervous being in a new place and she had to sniff every inch of the house. At night we kept her in the bathroom where she cried and peed the whole time.

Eventually we crate trained her and potty trained her. However, when it came to keeping her in the crate at night, I could not resist. I HAD to sneak down and take her out and up to my room. This in turn formed the habit of her sleeping with me every night (which also caused some issues when I left for college). This is definitely where Marley and I's relationship began to form (and now that I'm home full time we are ALWAYS together).
