Why Setting Boundaries Is Good

What Are boundaries?

Boundaries are an invisible line that defines what behaviors are acceptable for someone. Boundaries can be:

  • Physical (do not touch me)

  • Emotional (do not lie to me)

  • Time and Space (please respect my time and we can hangout when I finish X,Y, and Z)

Why is setting boundaries good?

Setting boundaries is 100% a form of self care. It helps create limits of how you would like to be treated. Boundaries let others know what is and what is not acceptable. It honors your needs and wants in order for you to feel respected and safe.

How can you set boundaries?

  1. Recognize you deserve to be treated with respect

  2. Take a moment to acknowledge and define the boundaries you might already have in place

  3. Recognize what boundaries you would like to have. What are your wants and needs? These might change for family, friends, and partners

  4. Communicate your boundaries in a respectful manner
