What Is A Content Strategy

A content strategy is a plan in which you use content to achieve your business goals. A successful plan will attract your target audience and keep them engaged even after purchase.

When developing a content strategy, there are a few questions to answer:

Who Will Be Reading Your Content

Who is the target audience for your content? For how many audiences are you creating for? Using a variety of content types and channels will help you deliver content that is tailored to each persona.

What Problem Will You Be Solving For Your Audience

A strong content strategy supports people on both sides of your product: those who are still figuring out what their main challenges are, and those who are already using your product to overcome those challenges. Your content should reinforce the solution and build credibility.

What Makes You Unique?

Your competitors have a similar product as yours, which means your customers need to know what makes you better (or different). To prove why you’re worth buying from, you need to permeate the message in your content and prove that you’re worth listening to.

What Content Formats Will You Focus On?

You need to figure out where your audience is and go from there. If you don’t, you waste time creating content that either wont reach your audience or capture their attention.

What Channels Will You Publish On?

Just like you create content in different formats, you also create content for various channels (website, social media, etc.). This, of course, reflects where your audience lives and what they prefer. For example, if your audience prefers long-format content, YouTube might be the perfect channel. If they prefer short-format content, TikTok and Instagram might be the preferred channel.

How Will You Manage Content Creation?

Before you execute your plan, it's important to establish:

  • Who is creating what

  • When it is being published

  • When it is going live

Why You Need A Content Strategy

Content marketing helps businesses prepare and plan for cost-effective and reliable sources of new leads and website traffic. This will give you the flexibility to experiment with other marketing tactics to generate revenue such as sponsored content, social media advertising, and distributed content. Not only will your content attract new leads and maintain existing relationships, it will also educate prospects and generate awareness for your brand.

How To Create A Content Strategy

  1. Define your goal

  2. Conduct persona research

  3. Run a content audit

  4. Determine which type of content you want to create

  5. Publish and manage your content

Define Your Goal

What’s your aim for developing this plan? Why do you want to produce content and create a marketing plan?

Conduct Persona Research

You need to clearly identify your content’s target audience. By knowing your target audience, you can produce relevant and valuable content that they will want to read, and therefore convert on.

Content Audit

It’s important to review your past content and see what was top-performing, and what was the lowest-performing content. Then, use this information to help guide you in the right direction.

What Content You Want To Create

There’s a variety of content you can choose from such as blog posts, podcasts, videos, etc.

Publish And Manage Content

With the help of a content calendar, you can manage and keep track of due dates, go live dates, and more.

Types Of Content Marketing

  1. Blog posts

  2. Case studies

  3. Infographics

  4. Videos

  5. Social Media

Blog Posts

Blog posts live on a website and should be published regularly to attract new visitors. The posts should provide valuable content that makes them inclined to share with others.

Case Studies

A case study allows you to tell a customer story and build credibility in the process. The goal is to determine how your product helped real-life companies succeed.

Infographics

Infographics can organize and visualize data in a more compelling way. It’s a great way to share data in a way that is clear and easy to understand.

Videos

Videos are found to be highly engaging and easy to share across social media platforms.
