How Product Packaging Affects Pricing

To some, the packaging of a product is just something to throw away, but for marketers, packaging can be a beneficial tool in further promoting the product or brand. There are several ways in which packaging can affect sales, but I decided to focus today on five.

The first is the idea that product packaging protects the product. Damage can occur during shipping, in store, or throughout the normal use by consumer. That is why companies benefit from investing in the packaging they use to protect their products

The design of the product packaging draws attention. When a consumer is standing in a store in front of different brands trying to make a decision, packaging is the first thing they notice. The packaging grabs the consumer’s attention and highlights the products values. This can increase sales because of how much attention the packaging receives.

Packaging also reflects quality. When the packaging is attractive and communicates an appealing value proposition to buyers, the product it represents usually sells more often. If the packaging is damaged, consumers believe the quality of the product is poor or also damaged and will not purchase the product.

Packaging offsets the price of the product. When companies present good looks and strong values on product packaging, consumers are more likely to spend more money to buy the products.

Product packaging also informs prospective buyers. Trustworthy information is helpful for buyers, and consumers will feel more confident about their buying choices.
